Aurora Plant Shop Expands With Rare Green Room |
River City Roots combines unusual houseplants, local crafts and hands-on workshops in Southeast Indiana |

A family-owned shop in downtown Aurora is giving Southeast Indiana plant lovers more reasons to visit.
River City Roots, located at 412 Second Street, has expanded its offerings with a dedicated green room for plants and related supplies.
The new space is designed to accommodate a broader selection, including harder-to-find varieties of Monstera, Philodendron, Syngonium and pitcher plants.
Customers can also find a terrarium bar and a potting bench available when purchasing a plant and pot.
The green room is an addition to an already varied business that combines houseplants, handmade decorations, antiques and creative workshops.
Classes have included stained glass, terrarium making, pottery, mosaics and seasonal craft projects.
The shop’s family members contribute different skills to what is available on the shelves.
Jill Craft, a former art teacher, makes floral arrangements, pottery and stained-glass pieces, while Bryan Craft creates woodworking projects.
Other family contributions include laser-engraved goods, clothing designs and interior-decorating assistance.
The expansion reflects a business built around creativity and personal service rather than a single product category.
Shoppers can browse plants while also learning about hands-on activities or asking about custom pieces.
The business hopes eventually to add a living wall, although that feature was described as a future possibility rather than a completed addition.
Downtown Aurora benefits when specialty businesses provide experiences that encourage people to linger and explore neighboring storefronts.
For residents across Dearborn County, the shop is both a retail destination and a place to learn a new craft.
Published hours list Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., but visitors should confirm current hours and workshop schedules before traveling.
River City Roots offers a distinctive stop for a plant gift, a locally made item or an afternoon project. |
