Dearborn County Residents Offer Alternative Solar Ordinance |
Citizen proposal seeks stronger local safeguards while county reviews regulations |

A group of Dearborn County residents has submitted an alternative proposal as local officials consider changes to commercial solar-energy rules.
The citizen-written document focuses on matters including noise, setbacks, agricultural land, site design and responsibility for retiring solar facilities.
Supporters say they want to preserve rural character while addressing the effects large solar projects could have on neighboring properties.
The proposal also raises questions about enforcement and how closely projects should be situated to one another.
The county is reviewing potential amendments to Article 19, its solar-energy regulations.
The Dearborn County Plan Commission had scheduled an October 26 discussion of proposed changes, but the cached announcement did not confirm whether it would formally consider the citizen alternative at that meeting.
Indiana law sets limits and standards affecting local solar regulation, so the county will need to evaluate what provisions it can legally adopt.
The submitted text is a working proposal, not an approved ordinance.
For residents, the next important step will be seeing what county officials recommend and whether any formal language advances.
No final regulatory change should be assumed until the county acts. |
