Driving less does not have to mean giving up every appointment, grocery trip or visit outside the house.

Across the Cincinnati tri-state, several transportation programs can help, but their service areas, age requirements and reservation rules differ.

The best first step is to identify the trip you need, including the return ride, before choosing a service.

Ohio: Start with Metro’s Fare Deal program

Metro offers a half-price fare program for eligible riders, including adults age 65 and older and people who qualify through Medicare or disability criteria.

Ask about obtaining the required Fare Deal identification and how the discount applies to your route.

Regular bus service follows designated routes and stops, so check the walking distance at both ends of the journey.

MetroNow offers another option within designated service zones, with rides bookable by app or by calling 513-551-5555.

It is not a regionwide door-to-door service, and its fare and rules differ from regular Metro service.

Northern Kentucky: Different services meet different needs

TANK offers reduced fixed-route fares for eligible riders age 65 and older, with identification requirements.

Separately, its Senior Transportation program serves riders age 67 and older for medical appointments, essential errands and certain facility trips.

Both the pickup and destination must be within the TANK service area.

That senior service operates weekdays, excluding holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and costs $8 each way, cash only.

Call 859-578-6949 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays to ask about eligibility and schedule up to one week ahead.

Trips depend on capacity, and recreational or social outings are not eligible under that program.

TANK’s RAMP paratransit is a separate service for people whose disability-related limitations prevent them from using fixed-route transit.

Age alone does not qualify someone for RAMP; call 859-814-2135 about its application and assessment process.

Southeast Indiana: Plan ahead with Catch-A-Ride

LifeTime Resources operates Catch-A-Ride for trips within its service area, including errands, appointments and community activities.

The service uses wheelchair-accessible vehicles and is available to the general public, with reduced fares for qualifying riders, including adults 60 and older.

Call 800-330-7603 to confirm your addresses, fare, available assistance and return-trip arrangements.

The current service page lists weekday operating hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and allows reservations up to 30 days ahead, subject to availability.

Make the first trip easier

Tell the scheduler about a wheelchair, walker or personal care attendant when booking.

Ask how long the pickup window is, whether the driver provides assistance and what happens if an appointment runs late.

For a cross-river or out-of-county trip, confirm the full route before relying on a reservation.
